PCD and PCBN CNC Turning Inserts

PCD and PCBN turning inserts are processed and ground with high-quality polycrystalline diamond (PCD) and polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) blanks.

They are two types of high precision cutting tools that are widely used in CNC turning processes for non-ferrous metals and ferrous metals.

PCD is a synthetic super-hard material composed of diamond microcrystallites bonded together under high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) conditions. It features an extremely high hardness, close to natural diamond.

In CNC turning processes, PCD inserts exhibit exceptional wear resistance and cutting performance, particularly when machining non-ferrous metals (such as aluminum and copper) and non-metallic materials. Furthermore, PCD inserts possess high thermal conductivity and a low friction coefficient, which help reduce cutting heat and cutting forces, thereby enhancing processing efficiency and surface quality.

PCBN also is a polycrystalline material sintered under high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) from cubic boron nitride (CBN) micropowder and binders. Its hardness is second only to diamond, making it one of the most suitable tool materials for high-speed cutting of ferrous metals.

In CNC turning processes, PCBN inserts can easily handle materials with high hardness and high wear resistance, such as hardened steel and cast iron. Additionally, PCBN inserts exhibit excellent thermal stability and chemical stability, allowing them to maintain stable cutting performance in high-temperature and harsh processing environments.

Both PCD and PCBN inserts are available according to ISO specifications. Please refer to the catalogues below.
